Kootingal Public School promotes a culture of collaboration and holds high expectations for all students to achieve across the curriculum. We are committed to meeting each student’s needs by fostering a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment.
Our teachers work together and receive ongoing support to deliver high-quality, evidence-based teaching programs. We greatly value student wellbeing and actively encourage family and community involvement, building strong partnerships between home and school to support our students’ learning. Two programs that are run within the school to support student wellbeing are The Resilience Project and Positive Behaviour for Learning.
The Resilience Project
Kootingal Public School has partnered with The Resilience Project to provide students with access to a whole school, emotionally engaging program that provides practical, evidence-based mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness. The program is embedded within our weekly conversations and explicit lessons are taught to each class focusing on the key principles of the program; Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) provides a framework for our school to support the wellbeing of every student. It is an evidence based, positive, student focused approach to behaviour that encompasses the whole school community. PBL involves creating, teaching, modelling and rewarding expected behaviours by everyone, everywhere, every time.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
teachers who help students feel welcome and included
access to school psychologists and collaboration with specialist staff
programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
help for students who are new or changing year levels
clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
